xcellos was founded by a successful software entrepreneur and an old ad guy. The idea was that social media would change things. Well, it certainly has. But we still have our lives. And the highlights are defined by the time we spend together. Really together. In real life.

So, we developed an application called itzup. Why itzup? Because itzup means everything that’s going on that brings us together. We found a way to stream over 80,000 live events into facebook, buy tickets, see who’s going, make plans, and hook up. It occurred to us that there are a lot of brands out there that look forward to the live events where they can spend some quality time with their loyal customers.

That’s when we made a version of itzup for pages. Suddenly a sports bar with 1000 locations could show facebook fans what would be showing at their neighborhood location. They could offer those fans a deal for coming in to watch the game. They could reward their fans for inviting their friends to join them. And, they could give their partners a way to advertise a particular bourbon and soda that night. They could even host contests that would attract new fans to their page. Pretty cool, huh?

What we’ve discovered is that our application is flexible enough to support sports bars, teams, bands, media outlets, venues, tourism bureaus, retailers and virtually any other brand that engages people through live events. As the field of companies building social media tools gets more and more crowded, itzup stands apart as the only application that gives these brands a way to make the most of the time they share with their fans in real life. After all, that’s what social media was intended to do in the first place.
